Webmasters Resources
Adult webmasters are unique in that unlike almost every other population of businessmen and businesswomen, adult webmasters are willing to share their experiences and knowledge with others.
There are numerous resources out there which can be tapped to improve your web and business. Some are aimed at larger, corporate efforts, some at the smaller, home-based webmaster. All should be looked at and gleaned for helpful information.
Fellow webmasters can be an extremely worthwhile source of information. If you have the chance to get to know webmsters in your area, meet them and socialize. These are great people, and the socializing is fun. But they can also be great for guidance and help.
You can't always meet people face-to-face, though. That is where the webmasters' lounges come in. Resource sites such as All4U and YNot below have lounges and webmaster chat, but most of the larger AVS's also have them. Start reading the postings, and if you can help out, then do it. Long before I knew anything about what I was trying to do in the adult web, I was able to help out several people on general business questions.
One of the most extensive resource sites for browsers and webmasters alike, this site is a must stop for everyone getting into the business. Their mission statement reads:
1. To provide the most valuable service for both consumers and merchants
engaged in the use or distribution of legitimate adult-related material on the web,
while actively practicing and promoting all reasonable efforts to protect children
from accessing potentially harmful material.
2. To use our power and resources, toward positive efforts which may help
improve, assist, or eliminate any current or potential problems relating to the adult
industry online and/or society in general.
They do a pretty good job at it and also represent the adult industry when needed.
THE ADULT WEBMASTER RESOURCE GUIDE
I used this site religiously when I got started in the business (between this site, Validate's webmasters lounge, and Don Billings of donsworld.com, I somehow managed to start making some money right away instead of wasting time and effort doing it "my way.") If you are looking for content, services, scripting, or anything else having to do with the adult web industry, here's your stop. Use the id "great" and the password "idea" for entry. (The id and password are freely given, so you can go ahead and pass it around.)
This is a very good resource site, and it is one of the few which has a "new webmasters" section. The girls at All4U are always very sweet and helpful, and I have been impressed at their quickness and willingness to respond to my e-mails. These are good people, and the site is quite valuable. Give it a look.
This is the granddaddy of adult internet conventions. It is held twice a year, once in Las Vegas, and once in Florida. This is a unique opportunity to see content vendors, hosts, billing companies, and anyone else who provides a service to the adult webmaster. There is a lecture series put on by experts in the various fields, and you can absorb tons of valuable information at the talks. There are numerous parties for those who want to have fun, but you would be far better off networking and learning what others have done. If you are serious, the cost of the convention and trip there will be more than offeset by the increase in your revenues resulting from the implementation of what you learned.
